All Laptop in Space Station Now Use Linux OS

Computer experts from institutions and U.S. space flight (NASA) decided to install Linux on all of the computers on the international space station (ISS). The new operating system is expected to provide a more stable and reliable.

There are dozens of laptops that can be used on the ISS astronauts. The portable computer is connected using a network opsLAN. Computer is in control of all daily procedures such as giving out the existence of an astronaut to record video.

At first the entire laptop using Windows XP operating system that Microsoft created. But over time , astronauts need a better operating system. Choice fell to the Linux operating system as a replacement.

"Full Migration is done because we need a more robust operating system. With Linux, we are more free to patch the 'holes' in the system," said Keith Chuvala of United Space Alliance, which is a partner of NASA in operating opsLAN.

Later, an astronaut to fly into orbit will be trained to operate Linux. The training was organized by the Linux Foundation, a nonprofit organization.

Linux itself has been used to carry out various functions of the space station. Space Robot Robonaut delivered to the ISS in 2011, also using the operating system Linus Torvalds first developed it. Astronauts and operators on earth can point Robonaut that do work hard -threatening astronauts.

Linux variant that has been modified is also used by large-scale research projects , including machines belonging hunter God particle European nuclear research organization.

"Linux Foundation has everything,"said Chuvala." The cost is also required so that the better end of the calculations show a better value."

The use of Windows XP could harm ISS. In 2008, a computer worm attacked W32.Gammima.AG station that carried with a laptop owned by Russian cosmonauts. Windows XP vulnerability to the virus confirmed by antivirus firm Symantec.
